The Isle of Man Marine Administration held an ISM seminar in Nice in March 2006. This was presented by Andrew Jack, one of the principal marine surveyors, and was aimed at the Captains and crew members of comercial yachts. The presentation gave guidance and assistance on the implementation of the saefty management and security required by the ISM and ISPS maritime codes. The seminar was attended by several members of the Isle of Man Yacht Forum as well as marine lawyers, superyacht skippers, brokers and charter agents. This seminar was designed for Captains and crews of yachts over 500 GRT. It also benefitted the Designated Person Ashore. The Marine Administration gave guidance and discussed what they would expect to find on yachts over 500 GRT during the ISM audit with regard to some of the following topics:
Said Minister for Trade and Industry, Alex Downie: "This was very well received and much appreciated by industry and is the first of a few initiatives to raise awareness of the standards of safety on commercial yachts." The Isle of Man Marine Administration has always been proactive in taking such measures to improve the relationships between those working onboard and the flag state which helps ensure the safe and smooth running of these luxurious vessels. Alex Downie said "These Manx registered super yachts were a terrific advertisement for the international reputation of the Isle of Man, and with the Cannes film festival coming up in a few weeks time, several of them will be greatly admired if not envied by many visitors to the world's most prestigious film festival."
